Yup, not too much of the "new kid on the block" here, I've had my time on my old DA account that got muddled up and totally...forgotten. So OUT with the OLD and IN with the NEW, right? In the time I have not been on the internets or in the classroom, or sleeping, dining, etc., I've been in the Studio. OOOOHH yes, I have been learning things and doing things and creating awesome things in. the. Studio.

Last year I had a wonderful first year at UNC Chapel Hill, made it out alive without the Freshman/First-Year 15 (more like -15 for me 0___o), and got to sit in on several intriguing lectures by visiting artist as well as meet a few of them. This past year, my arts education was guided and enriched by Jina Valentine, a mixed-media and text based artist; Megan Stein, a graduate MFA student at UNC; and Carrie Alter, a painter who reacting to the absurd and existential aspects of the human condition. Through these artists I was invited into and explored these courses/divisions of arts; respectively: ARTS 101 (Foundations and Questions: What is Art?), ARTS 103: SPACE (sculptural art), and ARTS 202: PAINTING.

So far this year, I have returned to a brief love of my high school arts education: Printmaking. In ARTS 208: Print Survey, under the intrepid guidance of Brain Garner; a master printing moving shop from Boston down to RDU area in North Carolina; I have learned so much more about the wondrous and magical world of printmaking. As this semester winds down to a close and my immune system decides not to do its literal one job, with finals upon the horizon; I sorely wish that this semester would last a while longer. With so much new knowledge, in fleeting tastes of a variety of forms of printmaking, I have found a deep appreciation for the technique and process of printmaking that I did have before. In fact, I will make it my goal to gain that grand-master title: Master Print-maker, before I'm done with learning in my life. Such a big goal stemming from a single class I've had in this one semester, an awesome course chock-full of relief, intaglio, and lithographic print-making.
